8 Exhibitions in Paris I Can't Wait To Visit This Autumn
I love autumn for that feeling of "relaunch", when everything gets back on working mode after lazy summer. You feel it particularly strong in big cities like Paris: just go down to the subway and you'll get lost in the number of posters inviting you to all kinds of concerts, movie premieres and exhibitions. Autumn is just the perfect time to visit museums and get your dose of culture activities: nothing better than spend an afternoon in a warm bright room surrounded by beauty on a cold rainy day.
In today's post, I am sharing my "must-visit" exhibitions for this season in Paris. Of course, these are not the only activities going on this autumn, the list is endless (especially when it comes to the shorter, like weekend-long cultural events for example).
Just a quick reminder for you to buy a ticket online in advance, if possible: the queue at the entrance is inevitable anyway but make it shorter by purchasing your ticket in advance instead of spending extra 30 mins in line to the cash desk.
Как же я люблю осень за ощущение "перезапуска", когда после размеренной летней ленности все возвращается в рабочий режим. Особенно это ощущается в мегаполисах: стоит просто спуститься в метро и глаза начинают разбегаться от количества рекламных плакатов с концертами, премьерами и выставками на ближайшие несколько месяцев. Осень просто идеальное время для посещения музеев и прочих культурных активностей: когда на улице непогода, так приятно оказаться в теплом светлом месте в окружении красоты.
В сегодняшнем посте я делюсь своим "must-visit" списком на этот сезон. Список, конечно, неполный, потому что количество культурных мероприятий (особенно более коротких по сроку) просто бесконечно. Я выделила для себя и для вас несколько масштабных событий и громких имен, обязательных к посещению в Париже этой осенью.
Для всех без исключения мероприятий на всякий случай напоминаю, что лучше купить билет заранее онлайн: пусть очередь на вход даже с уже купленным билетом неминуема, ожидание все же будет чуть короче, чем в огромной очереди на покупку билета на входе.
Picasso. Chefs-d’œuvre! at Musée national Picasso-Paris ( September 4 - January 13)
Actually there are two Picasso exhibitions going on in Paris in the same time: Bleu et Rose at Musee d'Orsay and Picasso. Chefs-d’œuvre! (yep, with the exclamation point in title) at Musée National Picasso in Le Marais. The latter includes 122 artworks - sketches, paintings and sculptures - created by the artist throughout his life. Each of them has taken an honorable place in the history of modern art.
Why I preferred Picasso. Chefs-d’œuvre! to Bleu et Rose? For the simple reason that I have never been to the Picasso Museum (unlike the Museum d'Orsay) before and such a large-scale event highlighting Picasso's best works would be an excellent occasion for the first visit.
Практически параллельно с выставкой Музея д'Орсе Bleu et Rose, в Национальном Музее Пикассо в квартале Маре проходит выставка с громким названием Пикассо. Шедевры! (именно с восклицательным знаком в названии). Последняя, включает в себя 122 призведения (эскизы, полотна и скульптуры), созданные художником в течении жизни. Каждое из них заняло почетное место в истории современного искусства.
Почему я отдала предпочтение выставке Picasso. Chefs-d’œuvre!? По простой причине того, что я никогда не была в Музее Пикассо (в отличии от Музея д'Орсе) и масштабное событие с лучшими работами художника, собранными из частных коллекций со всего мира, будет отличным поводом для первого визита.

Miró. Retrospective at Grand Palais (October 3 - February 4)
Joan Miró is a Catalan twentieth century artist, living and creating at the same era with Picasso and Matisse. Miró is one of the brightest representatives of surrealism and abstract art. Miro's exhibition is second abstract art exhibition on my list; in fact without being an art connaisseur, I am interested in surrealism from visual point of view: forms, colors and lines are unobvious, we should make an effort to see the artist's message through it. And I am always impressed with the art that makes the imagination and abstract vision/thinking work.

На большой выставке-ретроспективе, посвященной художнику, в хронологическом порядке представлены работы художника (скульптура, картины). Выставка Миро - вторая и снова абстрактная в моем списке. Мне интересен сюрреализм: рассматривать формы, цвета и линии, пробовать сначала самостоятельно рассмотреть сюжет и уже после прочитать название/описание картины. Мне очень импонирует искусство, которое заставляет работать воображение и абстрактное видение/мышление.

Le Cubisme at Centre Pompidou ( Octobre 17 - February 25)
First since 1953 large exhibition dedicated to cubism in Centre Georges Pompidou. Cubism is a direction known mostly thanks to Picasso. In essence, cubism reflects the artist’s desire to reduce and decompose a 3D (real life) objects into simple geometric forms and then re-assemble them into 2D image on canvas. Among the 300 art works, chronologically divided into 14 chapters, the exhibition presents works of the most famous Cubists such as Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Fernand Léger and Pablo Picasso, as well as lesser-known representatives of the movement such as Gleizes, Metzinger, Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia.

По сути своей кубизм - это стремление художника разложить трехмерное (жизненное) изображение на простые плоские элементы и дальше собрать их на холсте в двумерном (плоском) изображении. Среди 300 произведений, хронологически разделенных на 14 глав, на выставке представлены произведения таких селебрити-кубистов, как Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Fernand Léger и Pablo Picasso, а также менее известных представителей направления, как Gleizes, Metzinger, Robert и Sonia Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp и Francis Picabia.

Klimt: a journey to the heart of the Viennese Secession at Atelier des Lumières (April 13 - January 6)
The very first exhibition of the new cultural space Atelier des Lumières located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. This new art space is dedicated to displaying art digitally. Atelier des Lumières projects multiple masterpieces (in our particular case, the masterpieces of the Viennese artist Gustav Klimt ) onto the walls and other surfaces using the technologies and light.
Recently they extended the exhibition dates until the January 6, which is good news for me because despite the fact that the event is open since April, I still haven't had time to visit it yet.

Простыми словами, в Atelier des Lumieres картины, в нашем конкретном случае шедевры венского художника Густава Климта, транслируются на стены и другие объекты с помощью света и красок.
Недавно объявили о продлении выставки аж до 6 января, что не может не радовать, ведь она проходит в Париже уже полгода, но мне пока так и не удалось на ней побывать.

Michael Jackson on the Wall at Grand Palais (November 23 - February 14)
The large exhibition in the Grand Palais dedicated to king of pop Michael Jackson. One of the brightest symbols of the twentieth century, the influence of Michael Jackson on music, video, dance and fashion is indisputable. In November, the new exhibition Michael Jackson on the Wall will for the first time reflect Michael Jackson's influence on art throughout the works of Andy Warhol, Lorraine O'Grady, Isaac Julien, David LaChapelle.
Большая выставка в большом Гранд Пале посвященная поп-королю Майклу Джексону. Один из самых ярких символов ХХ века, влияние Майкла Джексона на музыку, видео, танец и моду бесспорно. Jean-Michel Basquiat at Fondation Louis Vuitton (October 3 - January 14)
This is my ultimate favorite and the most awaited exhibition of the season and I just can't wait to go and see the works of Jean Michel Basquiat in the Louis Vuitton Foundation. I discovered JM Basquiat a few years ago thanks to the tattoo on the arm of one of my friends, it was The Crown. His paintings could seem strange and even scary from the first sight (as most of neo-expressionism art works) but I am far not alone to admire Basquiat: Vogue Paris called the exhibition "cultural blockbuster of this fall" and the record sale ($ 110.5M) of Untitled (boxer's head on blue background) made Basquiat's masterpiece the most expensive painting created by the artist born after 1945.
And the bonus - visiting the Louis Vuitton Foundation is always a special aesthetic pleasure, I highly suggest.
Среди всех предыдущих культурных ивентов я надежно "закопала" моего абсолютного фаворита - выставку Жана Мишеля Баския в Фонде Louis Vuitton. Творчество Баския я открыла для себя много лет назад благодаря татуировке на руке одного моего друга (Сева, интересно, читаешь ли ты мой блог). Сегодня, я просто обожаю этот, на первый взгляд трешачок, и не одна я: Vogue Paris назвал выставку "культурный блокбастер этой осени", а рекордная продажа (110,5М $) картины Untitled (голова боксера на голубом фоне) сделала ее самым дорогим произведением, созданным художником рожденным после 1945 года.
Ну и бонус - посещение фонда Louis Vuitton это всегда особенное эстетическое удовольствие, советую всем.

Paris Photo 2018 (November 8- 11) at Grand Palais
Paris Photo is the largest international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium and is held each November at the historic Grand Palais in Paris. Paris Photo brings together up to 200 exhibitors from across the world, offering collectors and enthusiasts the most diverse and qualitative presentation of photography-driven projects today. Leading galleries showcase historical and contemporary artworks from modern masters to young talents. Paris Photo Fair takes place in Paris since 1997, I live in Paris since 2011 and have never been there due to many circumstances: ignorance, lack of interest, work or travels on the dates of the fair. This year I am going to do everything possible to get to this huge photo event.

На салоне представлены как исторические, так и современные работы, от всемирно известных шедевров до молодых и талантливых. Paris Photo проходит в Париже с 1997, я живу в Париже с 2011 и ни разу там не была в силу множества обстоятельств: незнание, отсутствие интереса, работа и поездки. В этом году я хочу сделать все возможное, чтобы таки попасть на этот масштабный праздник фотографии.
Nowadays when we are constantly surrounded by huge amount of information, it is important to educate your eyes and brain to see/feel the difference between the true beauty and its imitation. Art is not always about what is beautiful, pretty and easy to watch; often it is about what is important, relevant, striking. It is crucial to teach yourself to understand, to watch with your heart and mind open, to get deeper into something that is hidden from the first sight. From Instagram and the most of online space we only get clear, often opinion-neutral and already "digested" by someone vision of what is beautiful. It is so important to learn not only to consume (clothing, ideas, art), but also to create. And by "create" I do not necessarily mean really sit by your easel with paints and brushes. By "create" I also mean expanding your own brain and knowledge: to stretch your own boundaries of what is beautiful, to be openminded, curious about the world around. After all, the beauty is first born in our material world, created by real people like you and me, and only then it gets into our smartphones. And we all have a chance to observe this original beauty in real live, and not only through the prism of the next blog post.
Сегодня, когда мы окружены огромным количеством информации, важно тренировать свой мозг и глаз отличать истинную красоту от имитации. Искусство - это не всегда о том, что красиво, часто оно о том, что важно, актуально. Важно учить себя понимать, рассматривать, "докапываться" до того, что неочевидно. Instagram да и весь онлайн в целом, зачастую преподносит нам понятную, уже переваренную другими картинку того, что красиво. Важно учиться не только потреблять (одежду, идеи, искусство), но и создавать. И под создавать я не обязательно имею ввиду действительно садиться за кисть и мольберт. Я имею ввиду создавать хотя бы нейронные связи в собственной голове: расширять собственные границы красивого и понятного, быть открытым новому и не забывать, что красота сначала рождается в материальном мире, вокруг нас, и только потом попадает в телефон. И у нас у всех есть шанс наблюдать эту красоту в оригинале, а не через призму очередного поста.
