Pre-Christmas Paris: things to do in December
The pre-Christmas rush officially started last weekend in Paris: shopping windows turned into a Christmas fairy tale, the streets filled with crowds overweighted with packages and glossy boxes, lights and Christmas songs from every corner. The city smells like holidays! The weather helps as well: freezing and foggy even snowy (once😏 ) make you want to wrap up in a comfy plaid and watch Home alone. This vortex of shiny, bright, silver and gold can easily drive crazy anyone - so many things to do, see, buy and try could be overwhelming! So today I came up with a list of a couple events and a must-dos worth on my opinion your time and attention in December.
В эти выходные Париж официально погрузился в предпраздничную суматоху: все витрины превратились в рождественскую сказку, улицы заполнились толпами с пакетами и праздничными коробками, повсюду огни и новогодние мелодии. В городе запахло Рождеством! Еще большей атмосферы добавляет погода - очень морозная, туманная, даже иногда снежная (но это чудо произошло пока всего однажды, и сразу же растаяло😅). Этот вихрь всего интересного, яркого и блестящего легко может сбить с ног - ведь столько всего нужно успеть, увидеть, купить и попробовать! Поэтому я собрала в этом посте и для себя, и для тех, кто в Париже только проездом, собрала несколько событий и must-do, стоящих времени и внимания в декабре.
Ice-skating
For me personally the ice skating is one of favorite winter activities: as long as in Paris we rare could feel the "real" snowy and frosty winter, the ice rinks are some sort of the winter islands. My favorite one is the Grand Palais des Glaces in Grand Palais (2700 m2, which make is the biggest indoor rink in Europe!); but this one happens only once in two years, and next time only in 2018... However there are many other ice rinks happening in Paris this winter, both indoor and outdoor.
Ледовые катки для меня одно из самых любимых зимних развлечений! Особенно потому, что в Париж настоящая зима приходит довольно редко, катки становятся своего рода островком зимы в теплом городе. Мой самый любимый каток в Гран Пале (целых 2700 кв. м льда!) открывается, к сожалению, только раз в два года и в следующий раз будет в Париже только в декабре 2018. Тем не менее, в Париже сразу несколько не менее прекрасных катков - крытых и открытых.
Ice rink under the Eiffel tower

Panoramic ice-skating on top of Grande Arche at La Defense

For the first time the panoramic ice rink on top of la Grande Arche (do not confuse it with L'Arc de Trioump on Champs Elysees) will be open at La Defense area, metro line 1, from December 15 until January 14. After skating on the height of 110 meters don't miss one of the biggest Christmas markets of the city on Parvis de La Défense.
В этом году впервые открывается каток на недавно отреставрированной крыше арки Grande Arche (не путать с Триумфальной аркой!), в бизнес районе La Defense (линия метро 1). Панорамный каток с видом на Париж с высоты 110 метров будет открыт с 15 декабря по 14 января. После катания обязательно загляни на одну из самых больших Рождественских ярмарок под Аркой, на Parvis de La Défense.
Gifts shopping and windows watching
The most famous and the biggest department stores in Paris surprise the Parisians and visitors with their spectacular windows. Often created in collaboration with top fashion designers, the display windows are not only incredibly beautiful but often animated which makes the shoppers and pedestrians to stop and enjoy this Christmas theater.
Самые большие и знаменитые департмент сторы (универмаги?) Парижа каждый год удивляют парижан и гостей города своими волшебными витринами. Зачастую, витрины создаются в партнерстве с известными модными домами, которые ежегодно в соревновании за возможность "получить" самую желанную витрину года, создают самые настоящие шедевры. Каждая витрина - это не просто красивое оформление, это скорее кукольный театр, со своими персонажами, блесками и продуманным до мелочей декором.

Grand roue de la Concorde
The Ferris wheel on Place de la Concorde has become one of the main symbols of Christmas in Paris. From its 70 meters height enjoy the wonderful panorama over avenue des Champs Elysees decorated with holiday lights, Jardin des Tuileries, Le Louvre, iconic Parisian rooftops and Eiffel Tower, of course. This year there is one additional reason to take a ride on the wheel: as the lease for the area where the Wheel is installed expires next year and la Mairie de Paris (Paris City Hall) has not yet confirmed its extension, this year might be the last for the Ferris Wheel on Place de la Concorde...
Колесо обозрения на площади Конкорд (площадь Согласия) за много лет стало одним из символов Рождественского Парижа. С высоты 70 метров открывается чудесная панорама на город: Елисейские поля, украшенные огнями к праздниками, сад Тюльри, Лувр, крыши Парижа и, конечно, Эйфелева башня. В этом году обязательно стоит прокатиться на колесе - Мэрия Парижа пока не подтвердила продления аренды места на площади для колеса, поэтому его возвращение в следующем году пока под вопросом.
Christmas markets
Certainly for the most spectacular Christmas fair you should be going to Alsace region. There, the whole cities like Colmar and Strasbourg turn into one huge open-air market: every street, every house is decorated for holidays, no wonder this region is called the capital of Christmas. But Paris Christmas fairs (though not so big) are no less charming. Moreover, in Paris, besides classic fairs with souvenirs from all over the world, caramel apples and hot wine, there are many more unusual ones like vintage Christmas fairs, vegetarian and so on.
Безусловно, за самой настоящей Рождественской ярмаркой стоит ехать в регион Альзас. Там целые города, Кольмар, Страсбург, например, превращаются в одну сплошную ярмарку под открытым небом: каждая улица, каждый дом украшены к Рождеству, недаром этот регион называют столицей Рождества. Но Парижские ярмарки хоть и не столько масштабные, не менее очаровательные. Более того, в Париже помимо классических ярмарок с сувенирами со всех стран мира, яблоками в карамели и горячим вином, проходит еще множество тематических - винтажные Рождественские ярмарки, вегетарианские и тд.

Open from December 1 to January 1. Classic one, great chance to discover the Left bank during the festive season. Don't forget to stop by the iconic Cafe de Flore for a cup of hot chocolate.

This fair is #1 on my personal list; it will last only a week - from 2 to 10 December. Fair Feeries d'Auteuil takes its place in the heart of classy 16th district in a nice square with a beautiful carousel, street theater and ponies. For sure it will be a quiet fair for the residents of this area, without the hustle and bustle of other much more tourist locations.
Эта ярмарка, посетить которую я хочу больше всего! Длиться она будет всего неделю - со 2 по 10 декабря. Ярмарка Feeries d'Auteuil проходит в сердце буржуазного и очень парижского по духу 16 округа в милом сквере с красивой каруселью, уличным театром и пони. Наверняка это будет спокойная ярмарка для жителей квартала, без суеты свойственной более туристическим локациям.
Le marche de Noel Vegane de merci Bernard #2
Held for only one weekend December 16-17 in such a cool place as La Recyclerie. This fair is for the adepts of vegan lifestyle: books, decoration, cosmetics, perfumes, chocolats etc. And after your shopping try awesome and generous brunch at La Recyclerie.
Веганская Рождественская ярмарка будет проходит всего одни выходные с 16 по 17 декабря в очень крутом месте La Recyclerie. Идеальная ярмарка для веганов и вегитарианцев: здесь ты сможешь порадовать себя веганскими вкусностями (шоколад, сыры, конфеты), предметами декора, книгами, косметикой и парфюмами. А закончить шоппинг бранчем в самой La Recyclerie.
Hot-chocolate sipping
No Christmas spirit without the real hot chocolate (after a cup of which you will be full until dinner). You can have it to go to warm up and to energize during your pre-Christmas marathon, or to have it inside in a pretty cafe. Here are three of my favorite addresses for hot chocolate.
Праздники у меня ассоциируются с шоколадом, и особенно с густым горячим шоколадом (после чашки которого не хочется есть аж до ужина). В Париже горячий шоколад можно взять на вынос для согрева и порции энергии, или же сделать паузу в теплом и уютном кафе.
Angelina, 19 Rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris
Classic and must-do spot for every tourist in Paris. In the biggest "flagship" Angelina on rue Rivoli, I highly suggest you to take the chocolate to-go: I am not a big fan to stay in this particular cafe as the service is not always on top and there is always a big line on the entrance. My favorite Angelina (small and cozy) is the one at museum of Jardin du Luxembourg.
Это классика любимая туристами. В главной и самой большой Angelina на rue Rivoli советую взять шоколад с собой: оставаться в самом кафе не очень люблю из-за не всегда приветливого сервиса и очередей. Самая любимая Angelina - маленькая и уютная у музея сада Люксембург.

Despite the fact of being located in really pretty and Parisian passage du Commerce Saint Andre des Arts on Left Bank, the hot chocolate at La Jacobine is no less than The best chocolate of Paris.
Помимо того, что горячий шоколад La Jacobine считается самым вкусным во всем Париже, само кафе находится в очень живописном мощеном пассаже Рassage du Commerce Saint Andre des Arts, который сам по себе заслуживает визита!
